Your physiotherapy assessment will normally take the form of the following sections:
- Discovery of your medical history
- What has brought you to physiotherapy for this assessment
- What do you want to achieve from your assessment and subsequent treatment
- If appropriate a physical examination will take place so it can be determined where the problem is coming from and to gain measurements to benchmark your treatment progression
- It may be determined at this point that treatment is inappropriate for you, in which case your physio will signpost you to either have tests done or to a different therapist.
- Your physiotherapist will carry out some treatment if this is appropriate
- They will then discuss how best to work on resolving the problem to attain the results that you want to get from your treatment
The assessment will generally take around 45-60 minutes, so as you can see there is a lot to go through in this time. As such you should be prepared as much as possible for this assessment, also there either may not be enough time or it may be inappropriate to carry out treatment.
